this past week glammor, glimmer and I were PAs (program aides) at girl scout day camp. It was awesome! we each got to help a leader with 12 kids I got to work with 4Th grader and by the end of the week I had twelve Klingon's(ugh).and i came back with about twelve things that I never made.So as you can see it was A fun time and I'm so doing it next year.

Archery Fun

For the last girl scout meeting we had, we went to graffiti and giggles grandparents house and did archery with the brownies.They learned how to post the colors and flag ediket as well as archery safety. Graffiti and Giggles grandma made everyone brownies, and some of the brownie moms brought watermelon for everyone to share. The brownies had fun and so did we.

ITS MY B-DAY(teen in the house!!!!)

holy cow, I turned 13 today and Im like freaked out because Im a teen now!!!

after I finished the sleepover at glammors house my family and I went up to Portland and watched an Imax movie. Then we went out to a really nice dinner(I was like so full)and now I just got home and im telling you about it. and after this im going to go and sleep in my tent for my first night as a teen!

Homeschool Swap

Today the girls hosted a book, clothing and toy swap at the weekly homeschool gathering at the Boys & Girls club. People brought such great stuff and came away with lots of useful items. At the end we gathered the remaining items up and took it all to Vina Moses - a local charity that gives needed items to folks in town.

2nd Brownie meeting: Playing around the world

Yesterday we had anther successful brownie meeting! YAY! We earned the whole playing around the world try-it. To do that we played 4 games from around the world: Jan Ken Po, sheep and hyenas, find the leader and Mrs.Bear. I know that at least I had fun! We also made cookbooks for the Make-it Eat-it try-it. Most of the girls even contributed a favorite recipe. I can't wait for next week!

1300 pounds of rice!

hello. Today we went to the Linn Benton food share and helped package rice.First we took 50 lbs. bags (of rice) and emptied them into about 1 lb. bags.then we tied the bags closed and put them in boxes.We packaged 1300 lbs. of rice.
the boxes that we put the rice in were all beer boxes, I thought that was pretty strange at first but then the lady explained that the boxes had to be a certain size and the beer boxes just happen to be that size.She also explained that the boxes were either donated(after they were done with their original use of course) or they were bought for any where in between one cent to five cents it was really fun and pretty cool experience and I would so do it again!

The Gang did such a great job with their first Brownie meeting! I have heard a lot of very positive feedback from the parents of the Brownies. Their girls came home excited and looking forward to more. Woo Hoo!

A New Bridge

Yesterday was our Girl Scout bridging ceremony.It took place at a park with a bridge running across a small river.Our familys (and relatives) attended and it was a dessert potluck.The actual ceremony took place on and around the river.We walked across the bridge and halfway across we dropped a daisy.The daisy represents Julliete Low, the founder of Girl Scouts, whose nickname was Daisy.After we did this we each presented something we had come up with.I read a poem that I wrote.

This Bridge by glimmer

I walk across this bridge
A new beginning has unfolded
Where it takes me I don't know
It leads me where I go
In adventure I learn more
Than with a textbook on the floor
The daisy represents me
Just springed and full of life
The river is a sign of continuos flow
And I know that I will grow
Not just in size but in my strengths
I will gain in friendships
My friends have taken me on this journey
Friends forever and always together
My family teaches me how to love
They are my continuose support
I tell them that I love them,

Glammer and I sung a traditional Girl Scout song, and the other three girls read poems they had written or helped with. Our leaders gave each of us a silver, uncut,key.The key was to represent us being able to unlock any door, including the door to the silver award.Glammer, Giggle, graffiti, and me (glimmer),were presented with the bronze award, the highest award a girl can earn in Junior Girl Scouts.The ceremony was a great success,and we are finally Cadettes.

Brownies!!!!!!

Our Girl Scout Troop is getting ready to start a brownie troop for homeschoolers.We already have over 7 girls interested, which is great!The girls are around the ages of 6-9.We are having our first meeting soon, so we've been busy getting ready.Us girls are planning and leading all of the meetings,and Galavantar and Glisten will be there if we need any help.I can't wait to get started!

Booth Sales Galore and a New Member!

Its been a busy week for the girl scouts!
We've had two to eight hours a day of asking people to buy cookies. We've been selling at places like Safeway, Winco, Fred Meyer and banks.
So far we've sold almost three thousand boxes!
Luckily we have extra help.
We have a new member of the gang of gregarious girls!
She fits in with our troop really well and she's really nice. Welcome!

A Mountainous Service Project

Galavanter and Geocacher are the cookie managers for the whole county and last Wednesday was the big cookie drop. Our Service Unit rented a building at the fairgrounds and the delivery company delivered all the pre-ordered cookies for all the troops.

We had 1,732 cases of cookies delivered (that's 20,784 boxes of GS Cookies!). Once it was confirmed that we received what we had ordered we sorted all the cookies into separate areas for each troop.

As the troops came to pick up their cookies, some of us checked them in and directed them to their cookies while others of us helped them load their cookies into their vehicles.

Galavanter received some great feedback from some of the troops:

"Oh My Gosh!!!!! You guys had the cookie pick-up so well organized and everyone was so calm and ... WOW :)
Thank you! :)"

"My compliments on a very efficient cookie delivery! It was very nice to have the kids helping (please thank them!!!), not that I mind schlepping, but it is easier if you only have to do it once. J "

"AWESOME job with cookie pick-up on Wednesday. Unfortunately I was unable to help that morning, even though I have the last 4 years. But I have to say, when I picked up the cookies for our troop I was OVERWHELMINGLY IMPRESSED with the professional attitude of the Girl Scouts at the beginning of the process, and all of the help loading the cookies into my van. Your team was so organized, efficient and absolutely excellent all around! THANK YOU!"

Cookies,Cookies and more Cookies

Hey, so we have been selling girl scout cookies today and yesterday and the day before that.Yes we have been selling allot of cookies and we plan on selling allot and I mean allot more.well if you want to sell 2000 boxes of cookies per girl(theres four of us) you kind of have to eat,sleep and breath cookies.we sold 1000 per girl two years ago that's us in the pix above at DC.We went to DC with the money we earned that year and now were trying 2000 boxes.You might be asking who in their right mind would even try to sell that many cookies? Well we would.Because you see we are trying to sell enough cookies to go to Savannah GA Because that's the place that Juliette low was born,raised and lived and lets face it Savannah just looks like a cool place to visit.so wish us luck and I'm sure we will reach our goal=)

homeless shelter valentine

Yesterday we went to the homeless shelter to decorate it. we made valentine cards, and there were doilies, and hearts. it was fun but we weren't as prepared as we were last year.

The Mario Pastega House

A week ago we went on a field trip to the Mario Pastega House.Mario gave us a tour of the house and told us a little bit about how and why he got started.It was a really nice place with a nice backyard and playground.The people that stay at the house are provided with a bedroom,some food,internet access,laundry machines,a comunal kitchen,movies, books,toiletries,and more.The cost of a night is $20,but if you can't afford that you can stay anyways.The house is for people/families who are either in the hospital or their loved ones are.To be eligable to stay you cannot live to close to the hospital.The house is a really great place and I would want to stay there.

Juliette Gorden Low is the founder of girl scouts. this picture us in Washington DC one of the many places we've gone as a troop. this summer we plan to go to Savannah Gorgia, where juliette was born and gru up. as a troop we're trying to sell 8000 boxes of girl scout cookies. 2000 each.

Hiya! I'm Galavanter, one of the two fearless leaders of the Gang of Gregarious Girls, which is 3/4 homeschool group, 1/4 Girl Scout troop. I've been a Girl Scout for 37 years, starting as early as I possibly could (I've actually been attending GS meetings since I was two months old!).

I love technology and helping people connect using technology. I love planning and figuring things out, especially figuring out the most efficient way to do things.

I'm constantly amazed at how much this gang gets done, when it doesn't ever feel like we are working at all! It's my hope that they continue to learn, grow, have fun and make a difference in their world together for years to come.

father daughter bowling. glimmer, giggle, graffiti, our fathers and I went to the girl scout father daughter bowling. us against the dads. graffiti's highest score was 92 glimmers high score 80 something giggler's high score was 98 and mine was 92. and after that we all went to cold stone for some ice cream it was really fun.

FIELD TRIP for KITS

As some of us mentioned in there ice breaker we love to go on field trips.Here's one of the more recent ones.we took a quick field trip up to Tigerd to deliver hope kits.Hope kits are kits that contain toiletry's (such as tooth brushes,soap and wash clothes)But we also make learning kits that have things such as pens, pencils,notebooks and construction paper.These kits will go to people that really need them.The people at MTI(Medical Teams International)seemed pretty happy when they saw how many kits we brought(about 100).We did this project to help us us earn our bronze award but it felt really good to know that were helping people across the world too.To learn more about hope kits and MTI you can check out this link=) http://www.nwmedicalteams.org/

hay this is glammor. I'm part of a girls scout troop.I've been in girl scouts for five years and its so much fun. I love singing. my favorite things to do are play with friends, sing, and to dance, my friends are giggle, glimmer,and graffiti, I have three cats batty lad, (named from the great tree of AVALON) tamwyn, (named from the great tree of AVALON as well) and Lyra,(named from the golden compass) we like to name all our cats after characters from our favorite books.to soot there personality.

Hi, this is me,graffiti at A park.Kind of muddy but having fun.I'm a part of a junior girl scout troop with three other girls.I love reading books,listening to music,and playing sports with friends.I have to admit that I'm the introvert in the group but I still enjoy earning awards such as badges,patches,all 4 signs and the bronze award witch is the highest award that a junior girl scout can earn.and then there's things like sleeping,eating,playing video games and did I mention chocolate=)

When our troop visited Washington DC in May of 2006, we happened upon a Supreme Court reading. Usually these take place on Monday, but Monday was Memorial Day. Without knowing it was an opinion reading day, we planned to visit the Supreme Court, and got there just in time to be seated to watch the justices read their ruling in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire. Now, sitting there quietly waiting for court to begin, and then sitting quietly and respectfully while they are doing their business isn't the most exciting thing in the world, especially for 10 and 11 year olds (and not really for 40 year olds either!), but it was slightly amusing to watch the distinguished judges tipping back in their chairs, twisting back and forth and staring at the ceiling (yes, really!).

So, why do we care about Ledbetter v Goodyear Tire? Well it is about pay discrimination based on gender. And, based on this specific case, our new presidential administration has signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act as the first law since taking office.

The court decided that, since Ledbetter didn't file complaint within 180 of the discrimination, that her suit was invalid. The dissenting opinion stated that, due to the nature of pay discrimination (as opposed to termination, which is a definite event at a definite time), 180 days is an unreasonable hurdle, and I agree.
